Dorst Technologies, Kochel am See

Industry:

plant and mechanical engineering

The company:

With approx. 2000 customers in over 70 countries and an export share of around 80 % Dorst Technologies is one of the world's leading suppliers of plant and machinery for the manufacture of ceramic and powder metallurgical SOLUTIONS. In addition to top quality, constant innovation and decided technological leadership, Dorst is known for its strong customer orientation, synergies and worldwide experience. As a medium-sized company with around 450 employees in 3 locations this specialist supplier registers a turnover of more than 60 million € a year.

Project tasks and objectives:

  1. The service contracts for the hardware and software of the old system were coming to an end. A number of old SOLUTIONS were to be replaced and consolidated, including complex data transfer
  2. Because of a number of island solutions (production, finance etc.) the IT system was not sufficiently integrated. The introduction of integrated standard software was necessary
  3. As part of the new solution security of investment and internationale availability via SAP were required
  4. The new IT solution was, among other things, to cover the following company-specific areas:
    1. individual project manufacture
    2. great diversity of parts
    3. extended workbench
    4. CAD integration
    5. service operations
    6. inter-company operations

Highlights:

  1. Among the customer's core requirements were complete SAP availability of enormous data volumes from various preparatory systems by an agreed deadline
  2. Because of the long useful product life the data volumes contain parts lists which can be up to 20 years old
  3. The customer's requirements were easily fulfilled within the time limit
  4. Implementation time only 7 months. Approx. 200 users were integrated

Concrete customer benefits:

  1. Out-of-date systems (FORMAT and CX) were replaced by a completely homogeneous IT infrastructure
  2. All individual programmes were replaced
  3. Today the potential of an integrated ERP system is exploited to the full
  4. Management, workforce, teams and departments benefit from the improved information base
  5. Previously independent departments (Sales, R&D, Production, Controlling, Accounts) have learned to commit themselves to a shared, integrated solution
  6. The initial noticeably more stringent examination of processes via SAP quickly had a positive effect in the form of reduced susceptibility to error and more exact figures
  7. A company standard was created which now also has to be rolled out at Dorst's subsidiaries in the USA
