The company has three locations, Butzbach, Kirchmöser and Gotha. As the market leader in rail points manufacture BWG operates one of the world's most modern production facilities for points. It is the sole supplier of high-speed points on numerous ICE tracks – for example on the Madrid–Seville, Hanover–Berlin, Cologne–Rhine/Main routes and many more.

Project tasks and objectives:

  1. Because of the high quality and safety requirements BWG operates complex production processes and the latest production facilities
  2. In the light of these factors and in order to deal with fast growing business volumes in future, too, a new, IT-supported planning and management system was required
  3. Data bases and operational management of a number of facilities were to be concentrated in Butzbach
  4. The aim was restructure cross-factory processes and create an integrated, IT supported organisation
  5. Reducing the workload of key staff by improved information flows and avoiding communications breakdowns
  6. Logistics processes were to become easier to monitor by means of a common data system
  7. Order flows, cost unit invoicing, monitoring of deadlines, resource planning and order-oriented production were to operate dynamically

Highlights:

  1. Implementation at company headquarters in only 4 months
  2. A further 2.5 months for IT integration of subsidiary plants
  3. The various data bases of the individual production facilities were harmonised
  4. Accelerated feedback process, roll-out of the production report as a management instrument, introduction of cost unit invoicing
  5. Optimised project coordination and operational benefits by 3-server landscape for test system, consolidation and production
  6. Further requirements resulting from the company's fast growth, e.g. extension of the project system for cost invoicing in projects, generation of project planning on the basis of SD entries, payment for services with transfer to wages/salaries section, archiving, document management etc.
