Datacon Technology GmbH specialises in the development and production of high-precision, high-end automatic assembly equipment for the microchip industry. The customers of this mid-sized high-tech company with a focus on mechanical engineering and component manufacture include leading micro-electronics companies such as Robert Bosch, Fairchild, Siemens, Philips, Infineon and Texas Instruments. Early in 2005 Datacon was integrated into the Dutch BESI Group (BE Semiconductor Industries N.V.) and accordingly became part of an international concern which also incorporates firms such as Fico, Laurier and Meco.

Project tasks & objectives:

1. As the result of a fundamental management decision by the BESI Group a uniform organisational and management structure was to be put in place for all companies within the group, with standardisation of group-wide business processes
2. Grouping and display of all data and information flows within a single ERP solution; before this the companies within the group used a number of different ERP systems
3. Integration of a portal solution with SAP NetWeaver Portal linked to an external PDM system
4. Development of automated and for the most part paper-free processes and workflows for the recording, administration and distribution of data and information relating to complex production orders
5. Increasing the efficiency and speed of processes in many areas, combined with a significant reduction in the relevant process costs
6. Central operation of the entire solution with reliable consolidation of all data, leading to fast and reliable interchange of relevant information and business management functions among all companies within the group
